At the Museum of the Cherokee People, visitors experience Cherokee history and culture in an immersive environment.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1948, the Museum of the Cherokee People is one of the longest-operating tribal museums in the country. Located in Cherokee, North Carolina on the Qualla Boundary, the sovereign land of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and ancestral homelands of all Cherokees, the Museum shares the history, culture, and stories of the Cherokee people through its exhibitions, collections, and programs.

Before Your Visit

Our Museum is not like many other museums you may have visited before—we are not simply a history museum, an art museum, or a natural history museum. We tell our story here—a story that is living and still evolving. To our Cherokee visitors, welcome home. To our non-Native visitors, we also welcome you into our home. And just as we have a responsibility to be a gracious host to our guests, our visitors also have a responsibility to be respectful guests in our home.
