The NAGPRA intern will assist in the care, inventory, and organization of NAGPRA-eligible materials in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the federal NAGPRA law. Interns will assist in coordinating meetings (both virtual and in person) with NAGPRA representatives of federally recognized Tribal Nations that have an interest in the MotCP’s collection. Interns will work closely with MotCP’s Director of Collections and Exhibitions, Manager of Collections, and Registrar.
- Assist in the care and organization of NAGPRA eligible materials by maintaining perpetual inventories.
- If formally requested in writing by THPO’s, intern will photograph NAGPRA eligible materials to help Tribes determine their interest in the MotCP’s collection.
- Maintain and organize digital copies of restricted photographs and inventories of NAGPRA eligible materials to be uploaded into MotCP’s internal Digital Asset Management (DAM) system (NetX).
- Will work with THPO’s to remove materials from MotCP’s forward-facing digital collection (Past Perfect) that Tribes deem to be culturally sensitive and restricted.
- Coordinate and organize group meetings (both virtually and in person) with NAGPRA representatives from federally recognized tribal nations that have an interest in MotCP’s collection.
- Assists with shipping or couriering of NAGPRA eligible materials to THPO’s that have an undisputed claim to MotCP’s holdings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
