The Way We See the World: Museum’s Annual Showcase of Cherokee Pop Culture Returns

An evening celebrating Cherokee film, humor, music, and art

MotCP's annual event uplifts Native representation in media

AUGUST 14, 2026: Museum of the Cherokee People celebrated the fifth year of The Way We See the World, a free annual event shining the spotlight on Indigenous pop culture, including film and television, visual art, music, standup comedy, and much more.

MotCP’s signature summer event showcases contemporary perspectives for Cherokee people, primarily by Cherokee people. This community-centered celebration puts Native self-representation in the spotlight, uplifting creative work that explores identity through art. 2026’s event invited audiences to be inspired and laugh out loud with two short documentaries, a short romantic comedy, a live DJ set, silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and art market.

A Night of All-Cherokee Talent

On Friday, August 8, MotCP screened the Cherokee-made films ᏲᎧ Ahyoka, Julie Takes a Walk, Women of the Stony Shore, and a sizzle trailer for the forthcoming Bastards of the Boundary film. We laughed and practiced Cherokee language through hip-hop with comedian/musician Zebadiah Nofire (Cherokee Nation).
