SUMMARY:Restoring Cherokee Perspectives: Exploring First Voice Research Methodologies
DESCRIPTION:First Voice research is qualitative study that centers lived experience rather than perspectives of observers. For Indigenous scholars\, archaeologists\, and museum professionals\, this means conducting research and study about our own tribal communities\, history\, and culture on our own terms. \nOn September 18 at 10:30am ET\, join Museum of the Cherokee People for a conversation with archaeologists Delancey Griffin (Cherokee Nation) and Makayla Williams (Cherokee Nation)\, historian Constance Yellowtail Owl (EBCI)\, and journalist Rebecca Nagle (Cherokee Nation) as we explore First Voice research\, why it matters\, new Cherokee research\, and navigating academia. \nJoin us in-person in the TJ Holland Education Room at Museum of the Cherokee People (no registration required) or tune in virtually (click to register). This opportunity is free and open to all. \nThis event is presented in partnership with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO) and the Cherokee Archaeological Symposium.
